Celetron Kiosk in Ireland for Treasure Tuesday

This is indeed a piece of genuine Irish history, specifically the iconic Phone kiosk. While this particular kiosk bears an modern "Celeron" logo modification on its header, its architectural roots are unmistakably tied to the traditional Irish Department of Posts and Telegraphs design.
Unlike Britain's famously brilliant red K6 boxes, the newly independent Irish Free State in the 1920s and 1930s intentionally painted their cast-iron and wooden kiosks a deep, organic green to distinctively mark their sovereign identity.

    1. I haven't seen a green public phone box before either. I wonder if they were protected, once very few people needed public phones.

  7. The formerly ubiquitous pay telephone boxes have almost completely disappeared from our urban environments as everyone seems to have a cell phone now. So there is no need for a pay phone box. My association with the UK red phone boxes is the Dr., Who series.

  9. I understand their need to use another colour, but they don't attract the eye like a red one does, which is helpful if you are looking for one. The house brickwork is interesting too.

  10. Interesting to see a 'green' one instead of the old red ones which are rather rare these days.

    Saludos.
