Adelaide China Town Mural for Mural Monday

It was a cold, wet evening in Adelaide, the rain turning the concrete paths of Chinatown into slick ribbons of reflected light. I nearly lost my footing on the treacherously wet pavement, catching myself just in time as the rain whispered steadily around me.

Above the pedestrians, painted high upon the wall of a Chinese grocery store, a grim-looking Asian woman gazed down with a worried, almost sorrowful expression. Her painted eyes seemed to follow the rain-soaked figures below, as though she too were watching over this melancholy evening in Chinatown.

For a fleeting moment, the scene felt strangely cinematic—the cold rain, the slippery pavement, the hurried footsteps, and that solemn face suspended above it all, silently keeping watch over the passing crowd.
