Cape Woolamai Pinnacles for Skywatch Friday

This photograph was made along the precarious approach to the Pinnacles at Cape Woolamai, where high tide left us with little more than a jagged causeway of granite boulders between the sea and the cliffs. Each crashing wave hurled white spray skyward with such ferocity that Joel and I joked we could be swept from the face of the earth at any moment. Looking back, we were delightfully reckless, chasing photographs where prudence might have turned back.

Yet nature rewarded our audacity. The evening sky, untroubled by a single cloud, unfolded in a gentle symphony of colour—gold melting into amber, then fading through turquoise to the deepening blue of twilight. Above us was serenity; below, the Southern Ocean raged with untamed power. Between those two worlds we stood, small and fleeting, reminded that the finest photographs are sometimes borrowed from places where beauty and danger keep equal company.

  1. What a wonderful long exposure photo making the sea look soft while emphasizing the light on the rocks. Good you both survived your time here. Best wishes.

  5. Don't mess with mother nature! This picture contains more faces than my brain usually finds. I'm always seeing faces in things. Most of the faces are Tiki style. Maybe I'll have a Mai Tai and just enjoy it. It is a fine picture, by the way!

  6. The rocks look almost unreal above the restless sea and backed by such a beautiful, tranquil sky.
