Martin Place Sydney Signs for Sign2

Many of the buildings and interiors bore a striking resemblance to those found in Melbourne. At times, I found myself reflecting on how modern cities, despite their geographic distances and cultural distinctions, often share a uniformity in design and atmosphere. The steel and glass façades, the sleek minimalist interiors, and the ubiquitous presence of international retail chains contribute to a certain sameness that transcends borders. It is as though the identity of place is increasingly shaped by global architectural trends rather than local character. One might wander from one metropolis to another and, for a fleeting moment, forget which city they are truly in.

  1. Cities not only look alike, but they often have the same chain stores. Cities across the world are growing more similar to each other while the rural cultures continue to remain distinct.

  3. Your pictures often look different than here to me. I can’t recall malls like you show in the 3rd photo, but I do think it seems similar to some British malls that I’ve seen here and there on tv or online.

  7. What you say is true. But there's something, I don't know... floating in the air, that maintains the original identity. It's something difficult to analyze, that makes that place authentic, and recognizable, as the original.
Beautiful photos, just as the place deserves.
    A big hug.

  8. I think there were many more differences in older buildings than the more recent buildings.

  9. Beautiful place! Our giant suburban malls are not doing well.

  10. The last photo reminds me of the Block Arcade in Melbourne - peaceful atmosphere, beautiful shops and attractive floors, stairs and columns.
