Hualien is the meeting point of the Central Cross-Island Highway, Suao-Hualien Highway, and highways leading south to Taitung.
Hualien County is home to several world-class scenic attractions. In 1590, Portuguese sailors passed by the eastern coast of Taiwan and were so moved by the grandeur of what they saw that they named this land "Formosa," the beautiful island. Since that time, the majestic views of Hualien have come to represent Taiwan.
Formerly known as Qilai, Hualien's current name derives from the phrase "huilan" (eddying water), a reference to the swirling currents of the Hualien River where it meets the sea.
Hualien is Taiwan's biggest county, with an area of about 4,628 square kilometers and a population of 350,000. The county borders the Pacific Ocean to the east and is hemmed in by the Central Range to the west. With its towering peaks, azure skies, vast seas, scenic valleys, cultural diversity, and friendly kindhearted people, Hualien has become one of Taiwan's first-choice travel destinations for local and international visitors alike.
There are some 200 after quakes after the initial one 1 month ago. I am not planning to go anywhere near the location now.

Going to another province for 2 days. No access to Wifi.
The water was actually clean in contrast to my childhood memory.
Tamsui Old Street is divided into the inner and outer side. The outer street is the golden anchor walkway of Tamsui river coast, while the inner side is a traditional old street lined with bustling shops. There are faithfully traditional pastry shops, groceries and stores selling trendy outfits and toys. The popular foods in the area include A Gei, fish ball, fried fish crackers, traditionally baked cake, Granny’s iron eggs, etc. are all must try goodies. In the evening, the beautiful scenery of the sun setting below the ocean horizon can be seen along the golden anchor walkway.

Normally this coast is looking bleak and grey. Finally a moment of blessing.

My long wait is finally worthwhile. It took me 3 weeks to find this moment.

In Warrnambool, a lot of Asian restaurants are run by Aussie cooks. It took me a long time to finally discover a Thai restaurant with original Asian style menu. Now I am eating at it on the daily basis.
There is a location called Magic Rock off Warrnambool coast. However, I cannot access the location as I do not have a 4WD. That was one of my goal to finally get a pic from there. Pity

It supposed to be a stormy weekend. On Saturday morning, there was a 2-hour cloud break among the thick cumulus clouds.
I rushed through the routine and driving to a few locations in a hurry. Finally managed to get a few shots both in drones and camera.
Forecast is telling me another week of storms...

Since I arrive this coastal town, the rain has been non stop. For the weekend, I was expecting a terrible storm until a cloud break close to sunset hours. So I quickly fly my drone to get a view off Stingray Bay. The wind nearly took my drone away into the sea...
At least, I got a shot here and there before the storm took over. So sad.

Finally the wind was a lot less on the weekend. Finally a view I really like.
I am now in Warrnambool for a 5-week locum work. Hopefully I get enough interesting weather for photography.

A sunny day to do long exposure. No clouds in the sky though.

No long exposure here. Just a quick snap that gives a totally different feel from the frame.
I am preparing this post as I had 2 failed to show attendances in my clinic this morning.

There is no epic sky. Just the same overcast weather with constant drizzle. There is also no parking available in the area on weekends. So one can only visit during the weekdays.

I realise I love photographing water and street candids. Street candids is an acquired taste due to my association with a former world class street photographer when I was in university years. Water photography on the other hand is a pattern I notice in my portfolio as well.

P.S. I finally received my camera after infra-red filter conversion. After 8 weeks! I will be testing the n520 wavelength filter in street photography tomorrow. Can't wait!
I did not wait until the sunset for this shot. The rock is called elephant rock which does not look like it from this angle.

There was this Nikon Guy who tried to stand in front of me while I already set up my tripod in this location. So I had to move forward to get him out of my view. Talking about etiquette

Among many trips to this location this year, this was one of the unique photo where I managed to get my whole pants soaked wet by rogue waves. However, the silky flow in the foreground works out well.

This was taken from a while back in my Brisbane trip. Joel and I accidentally found this mangrove bunch near the coast.
I was worried the sea breeze would move the tree branches too much causing motion blur during the long exposure.

For me, sea is my treasure. The gentle hiking and the smell of ocean just cleanse my worries away.
By sunset, it was pouring rain on us. We ended up discovering another fish and chips shop run by Greek grandfather. The snapper and souvlaki were so yummy and delish!
